When survivors make the effort to face their traffickers down in court they should get to keep the monetary damages they fought for and won.
Polaris supports the passage of the Human Trafficking Survivor Tax Relief Act introduced in the last Congressional sesion, a bipartisan proposal that would ensure civil damages, restitution or other monetary awards given to human trafficking survivors are exempt from federal income taxes.
We need your help to reintroduce and pass this bill. Restitution, civil penalties and other monetary awards to survivors through the courts should not be subject to federal taxes.
